HerStory: Sandra Clark
Biography of Sandra
Sandra grew up in Kent and her first job was in Ashford, in an HR department. This was a temporary job, which she took on when she was seventeen.
She had wanted to join the police but in those days there was a height restriction and she was just too short.
She had various short-term jobs before she had children – working as a receptionist, and in telephone sales. She continued to work part-time when her children were young and she then became a foster carer for a while.
After fostering, she took a job in a Children’s Home. It was a difficult job.
Sandra then went on to work in Canterbury for a Homeless Support charity – she worked there for eight years and loved it.
She also managed a women’s refuge, worked for a charity supporting parents of children with disabilities, the Seaview Project in Hastings and Living Well (now Steps). Many of these jobs were temporary contracts.
She had always liked making things and had sold her craftwork but she then set up her own business selling clothes - which she runs from home – the Funky Hen at the Secret Boutique.
In addition she is a drummer for RyeRebellion, the drumming group of the Rye and District Bonfire Society. Ryebellion started up in 2017. She drums but also helps run the group.
