HerStory: Get Involved

GET INVOLVED ?

What do the interviewers say......?

'These interviews have been a very interesting glimpse into the working lives of women here. I have found it fascinating and would very much like to continue doing them.'   Christina, volunteer interviewer.

'I met some amazing people and learned a lot about Rye and how it has changed over the years. All in all a very postive and rewarding experience.'   Kathy, volunteer interviewer.

'When I started photographing portraits of women at work in Rye for the Mayor's calendar in 2021 and 2022 I had no idea how this project could possibly be developed into an archive such as this. Thanks to the Heritage Lottery Fund and generous volunteer support, HerStory is becoming a rich authentic resource about women's contributions to the life of Rye in this decade.  Its a great priviledge to meet and to photograph so many interesting women .    Susan, Photographer and Co-Organiser

How easy is it to do these oral histories....?

A long list of women have expressed interest in telling us their stories about their working lives. We provide training and support, and you can choose who you would like to interview and when. These informal friendly conversations usually take no more than an hour and can easily be done using 'Voice Memos' on a smartphone.

If you would like to become a volunteer interviewer to take this archive forward please get in touch with Ali Casey at ali.casey63@gmail.com
