HerStory: Sally Bayly

Biography of Sally

Sally trained to become an architect. After doing three years of her degree and one year in an office the singing took over and she joined a pop band. She also played the part of the Acid Queen in the musical, 'Tommy.'

She made albums and toured with the band in America. 'I loved being in the band, the cameraderie and travelling.' She had always loved singing she says, and had singing lessons at school.

Sometimes it was hard being a woman in the music business. 'They always wanted the singer to be a pretty person...sometimes I had to fight...(there as a lot of) pidgeon-holing of girls and women in the business.'

After she had children she continued to sing, but she moved out of London to Rye and eventually trained to become a yoga teacher. She also did up houses but she does less of that now.

Her motto, 'don't be afraid to fail.'
