HerStory: Maka Sukhishvili
Biography of Maka
Maka Sukhishvili was born in Tbilisi, Georgia. Having grown up in Georgia she came to London in 2007 as a supervisor in a hotel in Sloane Square. The pace of her London life was intense and by chance, after a weekend in Rye with a friend, she fell in love with its atmosphere and beauty. In 2014 Maka learned about a job oportunity to become a companion to an elderly Rye resident, Dorothy Watson. She loved looking after Dorothy until she died in 2022. Maka has been careing for elderly people in Rye ever since. Over the past 11 years she has been engaged in a wide range of jobs in local hospitals, pharmacies and/or general practice, either as a volunteer (during Covid) or an employee. Her HerStory interview offers us all valuable insights into the working practices, both within and outside of the NHS, to support vulnerable elderly people and end of life care in our community.
