Biography of Beverley

Beverly Coombes started work at 14 years old as a Care Assistant in a rest home earning 25 pence an hour. As an older teenager she had a cleaning job at her local hospital and at 17 went into nursing. Beverly subsequently became a primary school teacher for 20 years as her children were growing up. She loved stimulating the curiosity of children and as well as her own curiosity which led her into learning music along side her children, getting her Level 3 in the Piano and Level 5 in Music Theory.

She enjoys singing and volunteering in various music projects for many years. After her children left school Beverly decided to an OU degree in Environmental Science. This took 6 years to complete. After she finished her degree she took on an allotment and started her masters degree in Global Biodiversity.

Beverly believes current education policies on evidence based performance and a rigid curriculim plus the effect of Covid 19 on this generation is challenging for students. More than ever in these times she advocates courage: "if there is something youwant to do.. go for it...never give up on your dreams."
